PRE-OP: INSTRUCTIONS

BEFORE SURGERY

PRE-OP (BEFORE YOUR SURGERY)

  • We are glad you have chosen Dr Madsen, Board Certified Orthopedic surgeon, for your surgery.
  • As we prepare for your surgery, our surgery scheduler will work diligently with your insurance company and the hospital to ensure the process goes smoothly.
  • We will contact you as soon as authorization is received from your insurance carrier to schedule a date that works well for you.
  • Please keep in mind we will need to also work with the hospital schedule as well.

PREPARING FOR SURGERY INSTRUCTIONS

  • No food and nothing to drink (includes water and coffee ) after midnight the day prior.
  • Please contact our office if you currently take blood pressure medications for further instructions.
  • Any blood thinners or aspirin products should have been discontinued seven days prior to surgery. Do not take any vitamins or over the counter medications before surgery unless instructed by the surgeon.
  • A general anesthesia will usually be given so that you can sleep through the procedure; however, you will discuss all anesthesia issues with the anesthesiologist.
  • Wear comfortable clothing.
  • If you wear glasses, contacts, or if you have dentures please bring a case for them as you will be required to remove them during surgery. Do not wear any jewelry.
  • You will need someone to drive you home after the surgery.
  • Please note the hospital will NOT release you to an Uber or Lyft.
  • It is a good idea to have someone at home to help you if you need anything.
